Supernatural 11x19 Recap: "The Chitters"

The Chitters.
Every 27 years, a new set of mysterious disappearances occur in a small town in Colorado and Sam and Dean head there to investigate. There, they meet two hunters who have their own personal vendetta against these monsters.

With no lead on Cas or Amara, Sam and Dean take on a new case where six people have gone missing within 48 hours. A friend of one victim said that she saw a creature dragging her friend away. These events occur every 27 years at the same exact time of year.

Naked, hairless, pale, human-looking creatures with eyes that flashed green, and absolutely no sign of a gender. There's also a buzzing sound. That's the description the victim's friend gives Dean.

After looking at some old police reports and previous investigations, Sam and Dean go to speak to the wife of a former victim, Pete, named Etta Day. After he went missing, they found him with a bunch of women. According to her grandma, once a generation, people would get "the chitters" and people would go crazy, having orgies in the woods and doing other things. Burning sage was apparently the way to keep yourself safe. They got their name as a result of the sound that could be heard from the woods. If someone got the chitters, a person's eyes would shine like emeralds as a result of the lust. Etta's also heading out of town to stay with her sister for a few weeks.

Dean goes to check out the woods and comes face-to-face with the Chitters himself. There, he meets Jessy and Cesar, two hunters who are also a couple. The formal name of the creatures they're hunting is Bissan. They're a cicada-like creature that take over a body because they can't do things on their own. Jessy's brother was taken by the creatures 27 years ago. They can be killed by cutting off their hands, but they need to prevent any eggs from being laid so the cycle can stop.

Sam and Jessy split from Cesar and Dean in order to find out more information. On their drive, Jessy explains that he found his brother after he saw him be taken, but then he saw his eyes and he took off running. He never saw him again after that. They go to speak to a man named Mr. Cochran to ask questions and explain that they're there because more people have gone missing. He followed one back in '89 back to it's lair. He found his daughter there, meanwhile she was supposed to be back at school. The entire time, he told Jessy that he was making it up, but Jessy accuses him of wanting no one to know that his daughter was one of them and that he killed her.

While Cesar and Dean are in the woods, Cesar is attacked by that emerges from under the ground, but is okay. They're searching for the borough, and Dean's got a lead. They find their hideout place and head inside. They're attacked (separately), but are able to fight off the monsters. The women are pregnant with the eggs, but they're already dead. The men were protecting them. The only thing left to do is get rid of the eggs and then it's finally over. The events that occur every 27 years won't occur anymore.

Dean proposes the idea to Sam that maybe Jessy and Cesar can give them a hand with Amara. Thing is, when they had a deal that when they finished this hunt, if they were successful, they'd retire from the hunter life. Being that they said that before Dean could ask, even though they did offer them help if they needed it, Dean didn't mention the Amara situation to them. He couldn't take away their newfound freedom.

On the next episode of Supernatural, a fog is rolling through town that's certainly the work of Amara and she's trying to send messages to the brothers, specifically Dean.

Supernatural 11x18 Recap: "Hell's Angel"

Hell's Angel.
Lucifer is on his way back home to Heaven while Crowley tells Sam and Dean that he's got a plan to take down Amara. We're getting back to the main storyline in tonight's episode after a short break so here's what went down.

Collecting his dues. Crowley's making his rounds collecting any Hands of God he can find by telling those whose lives are in his hands that he'll make the deal disappear if they hand it over. He does so, but then kills the man anyway, and also makes the other men around him who threaten his life kill each other.

Crowley's now got himself a weapon and gives his buddy a call. Yes, I'm talking about Dean. Dean's worried that maybe Lucifer's making Crowley call Dean, but why would Lucifer tell Dean of the exact plan that could lead to his demise? Looks like the Winchester-Crowley team up is back in action.

Amara & Rowena. Rowena heals Amara and she recognizes who Rowena is. She knows that she tried to control her once as a child. Despite having her neck snapped by Lucifer, Rowena's still alive. She has something inside her that heals her and has the ability to revive her, similar to what she used on Amara. Rowena's also been spying on Crowley and the Winchesters, so she discovers that they have the Horn of Joshua, but lies straight to Amara's face.

Team Crowley, Moose, and Squirrel. Crowley meets with the boys and says that he's got the Horn of Joshua. They know he wants something in return, and that something is to help him expel Lucifer from Cas' body and put him back into the cage. Problem is, they need the Book of the Damned, which Rowena hid, and Crowley believes that his mother is now dead rotting somewhere, so they'll have to think of something else... or find the book.

The priority is to send Lucifer into battle against Amara with the Horn after they get him another vessel according to Dean. Sam instantly disagrees and Dean counters with the fact that they can't send Cas into battle. Sam says that he was the one that made this choice; this was all Cas' decision and his choice should be respected. There's a strong between these two. Crowley puts his foot down and says that while Lucifer's not in the cage, the horn stays hidden.

Only Lucifer can use the Horn, so it's pretty much Crowley's plan or no plan and he's telling them so, but then Rowena sends them a sign and they know that she's alive and they need her help.

Lucifer's home! Well, his original original home. He's back in Heaven and he has no hesitation in killing angels. And then he has a group meeting with everyone, because he can. He tells them that his goal is to get rid of Amara, and once he does, he wants to stay around. Oh, and if it makes them comfortable, they can call him God, how sweet. So, Lucifer's running Heaven and while he is, Amara sends a small storm into Heaven to make herself heard.

Luci joins the party. The boys and Crowley meet up with Rowena and it's time to get this show on the road. Lucifer's summoned, trapped in Holy Fire, and they're getting down to business. They're able to get through to Cas, but then Lucifer pushes back through. Things aren't going as planned and Cas is unable to expel Lucifer, so Crowley goes inside, too. He finds Cas with his eyes glued to a TV and he's waiting for the battle and the darkness. Cas needs to snap out of it and he says that it's not a good idea. Lucifer shows up and starts throwing Crowley around, while Cas just sits and watches the TV still. Crowley needs help and he sends that message through to Sam and Dean. Sam instantly begins to perform an exorcism while Dean throws holy water on him and they're able to get Crowley out. Lucifer's hold on Cas is too strong.

The fire dies down and Lucifer's able to use his magic. He gets a hold of the Horn and begins to hurt the Winchester brothers, but then Amara crashes the party. Everyone's here now! Amara found her way there by tracking Rowena and he uses the Hand of God on Amara. The thing is, it didn't work, at all. She allows the Winchesters to be able to move and then takes Lucifer with her and leaves.

Back to Square One. Dean speculates that if the Hand of God needs to be used by God's chosen, then maybe an archangel that got kicked out doesn't qualify. Either way, it's back to the drawing board. Sam is about to apologize for what he said about letting Cas do what he chose to when Dean cuts him off and says that that's the policy they agreed to. When someone makes a choice, they have to stand by them and let them live out that choice. So, they'll go "get the idiot back."

Hello, God? It's me, Amara. Amara, although she continues to slam Lucifer into the wall, thinks that he'll be of use to her. She thinks that he may be the one thing that'll make God show himself. And then, of course, she'll allow him to see the destruction of all creation. So, it's torture followed by torture and even more torture until God decides to show his face.

On April 27, Supernatural returns with Sam and Dean taking on another case, this one dealing with human-like alien creatures. As for tonight's episode, I really enjoyed that we got back to the main storyline of this season and thought that Misha Collins was phenomenal. Definitely a good episode.

Supernatural returns on April 27 at 9/8c on The CW.

Supernatural 11x17 Recap: "Red Meat"

Red Meat.
We're dealing with werewolves this week and as Sam and Dean are about to defeat two and save their victims, Sam's shot. Dean gets his brother and the victims out of the house, but the werewolves are still after them in hopes to kill them all.

48 hours earlier. So tonight's episode is a before and after sort of thing. 48 hours earlier, the brothers haven't found out any new information on Lucifer or Amara, but Sam found this case, which is what put them in the position they find themselves in 48 hours later. Sam and Dean head to a bar to find out any information about the missing people but are unsuccessful because the woman at the counter says she doesn't know anything. Or does she? Spoiler alert: she does. When do suspicious characters know nothing, let's be real.

Present time. Sam's been shot. Both of the victims are safe, and Sam's shot in his stomach and they all move away from the area to get Sam help. They, along with the two victims (Corbin and Michelle), travel through the woods and find a cabin. They're in search for a radio or phone since they have absolutely no signal. Corbin wants to leave Sam behind because he's slowing them down, but Dean refuses to leave his brother behind. Back at the house they were originally in, the woman from the bar and the guy that was also there show up to see that the two werewolves there were killed. Their plan was to serve Sam and Dean to them but that failed.

Sam tells the Corbin to take his wife, go find Dean, and get out of there. He knows Dean won't leave Sam behind and they won't survive without Dean, so he decides to take matters into his own hands and suffocates Sam. We also see that he has a bit on his arm. When Dean goes back inside and sees Sam on the ground seemingly dead, he intends to stay and let the rest of the wolves come, but the Corbin says the he can fight and help save their lives. He promises he'll come back for Sam. They make it out to the main road and flag down a police vehicle. When the police officer says that Dean can't leave, Dean punches him and then gets tasered and ends up in the hospital.

Michelle, Corbin's wife, goes in to see how Dean is doing. She's not fond of what her husband's done and tells Dean she's sorry. She tells him that her mom always used to tell her that death isn't the end and Dean gets an idea in his head to talk to an old friend of his. He's going to kill himself in order to do so. Now, here's the thing, Sam's not actually dead. The suffocation just knocked him unconscious for a period of time. Dean doesn't know that, so down the pills go. Sam's in an extreme amount of pain back at the cabin and isn't able to move very well, and then to make matters worse, the lady from the bar and her sidekick show up. He drags himself down to the basement, but is bleeding a lot.

Michelle runs to grab a doctor for help and they're going to work on helping Dean not actually die. While this is happening, Corbin is turning into a werewolf. Billie shows up while they're working on bringing Dean back, but Billie says that no matter what the circumstances were, the answer will always be no. And then she hits him with the fact that Sam's not actually dead. Luckily, the doctor's are able to bring Dean back and he's alive.

Back to Sam, he's able to kill the sidekick after he goes into the basement following his scent and then he also kills the bartender. He makes sure to grab her keys to take their truck to get out of there. He makes his way back to the Impala and now finally has cell signal.

Dean was arrested for stealing and consuming an illegal amount of drugs, as well as punching a police officer, but Michelle lets him out of the handcuffs when the police officer leaves the room to speak to the doctor. He talks to Sam briefly on the phone but the connection is muffled so Sam can't tell him that the husband has been infected. Michelle finds the doctor unconscious and then sees her husband kill the police officer. He then wants to turn her, but Dean moves in to get him away from her and then Sam shows up to put a bullet in him.

Sam's body went into shock after Corbin choked him according to the doctor so he was just mostly dead. Michelle says that she's been told she can leave, but she can't bring herself to because she doesn't know what's after this. She doesn't know what could possibly be after this. Once Sam's released, he asks Dean what he did when he thought he was dead and Dean just says he knew he wasn't, so it'll be interesting to see if Sam ever finds out what Dean really did.

Great acting by both Jensen and Jared tonight. Some of it was emotionally hard to watch because they both were in pain. Next Wednesday we're going back to the Lucifer and Amara stuff, so we'll see where that takes us.

Supernatural 11x16 Recap: "Safe House"

Safe House.
Tonight's episode brings familiar faces with it when a dangerous creature is released in an old house and puts a woman's daughter into a coma. Bobby and Rufus once tracked the same creature so Sam and Dean look to the past in order to prevent any future deaths.

No leads on Cas or Amara means that Sam and Dean are out on some good old hunts. After a little girl ends up in a coma after she experienced cold spots and lights that had gone out. Sounds like a supernatural being. When Sam and Dean head to the house to take a look inside, a woman who lives next door mentions that the FBI showed up a handful of years ago to that house. Well, "FBI." We actually know these "FBI" agents.

A handful of years ago Bobby and Rufus actually went to the same house to take a look at the same creature that Sam and Dean are dealing with. A child also ended up unconscious when they went to investigate. Same cold room with the lights out. Same strange looking handprint on the little boy's ankle.

Sam and Dean step inside and get high EMF readings all over. They also end up staying at the same motel as Bobby and Rufus. There had been two deaths at the house, so it seems to be ghosts they're dealing with. It all seems to easy to Sam, though. A handful of years ago, Rufus believed it was a Baku (a Japanese spirit that devours dreams and nightmares), while Bobby believed it was a ghost. We get a general idea of when their hunt took place when Bobby says he was sleeping in his car because he was trying to figure out a way to stop the Apocalypse. He was worried about Sam and Dean.

When Sam and Dean see that both graves are ash, Sam gets his "I told you so" moment since they aren't actually hunting a ghost. While they're out digging graves, the mother also ends up in a coma. The same events as a handful of years ago are repeating themselves. The mother of the son then also ended up in a coma. The same doctor who worked with those patients is working with the mother and daughter Sam and Dean are dealing with. In the past, mother and son woke up fine. In order to get a better idea of what happened, they find the original mother from Bobby and Rufus' year.

It turns out that the wallpaper in the living room triggers what happens. The wallpaper being touched is what brought about the spirit both times. When she was in the coma, she experienced nightmares, and when she woke up, she wanted to get away from the house more than anything and she and her husband destroyed their credit to do so. The symbol behind the wallpaper is Sam and Dean's way to figure out what they're hunting. Rufus was also wrong as to what they were hunting. They're actually hunting a Soul Eater. It has the ability to take the soul out of the body and put it into its nest, which is why they experience the nightmares and the feeling of being in neither the real world or the world of the dead. As the body stays in the real world, it begins to wither away, which explains the victims' failing vitals.

Apparently the Men of Letters discovered a way to kill the Soul Eater, but one of them has to be inside the nest for it to work. Rock, paper, scissors decides who has to go in, and Dean loses, so he's the one that's going in. In his nightmare, he sees Sam dead, but pushes that image away. In Bobby's nightmare, since he's the one that has to go in during his and Rufus' time, he sees Sam and Dean dead. Each see the people (or person) they care about most.

Their job is to complete the sigil in both the real world and the nest. While Dean's in the nest he sees Cat, the daughter that's in the coma. She can see plenty more people than he can in the nest. He completes his side of the sigil, but the problem is that his body is then taken over by the spirit in the real world and is trying to prevent Sam from completing the sigil. Luckily, Sam is able to stop this possessed Dean long enough and kills the Soul Eater, saving the people inside the nest. Before Dean leaves, he also sees Bobby, which makes sense because the nest exists outside space and time. Everyone wakes up safe and sound.

Really enjoyed this episode and how the past mirrored the present, especially since we got to see Bobby and Rufus take on a case together. Next week, we're dealing with reapers again and it seems like Sam's going to get shot. Well, I guess we'll see how that goes, but he's obviously okay since it isn't a season or midseason finale. I'm curious to see what goes down.

Supernatural 11x15 Recap: "Beyond The Mat"

Beyond the Mat.
Sam and Dean decide they need a break from the Darkness when they see the obituary notice for a wrestler they used to watch when they were kids. They attend his funeral, which is full of wrestlers, including Shawn Harley (guest star Mike "The Miz" Mizanin) and veteran Gunner Lawless (guest star Aleks Paunovic). Sam and Dean attend the next match to re-live one of their favorite childhood memories, but of course, it can't always be no work and all play. When another wrestler turns up dead, the boys realize that fun time's over and it's time to get to work on this new case.

Sam and Dean find themselves in Missouri after Larry “The Hangman” Lee dies and they want to go pay their respects. This particular wrestler was killed by a noose, which is ironic because his signature move would be putting his opponent in a noose at some point during their fight. Oh, the irony. Since they need a break and are both burnt out, they decide it’s a good idea to go.

At the funeral, both Sam and Dean see people they loved when they were younger. For Dean, it’s a wrestler that he is completely star struck over and for Sam, it’s a manager who know calls some matches and she was also his first crush. It’s also from her that Sam finds out that Larry supposedly hung himself, which they didn’t know since it wasn’t in the obituary.

Dean really loves this Gunner Wallace guy. He freaks out like crazy over him, especially when he comes to wrestle and actually starts doing well. It’s awesome to see the two of them having such an awesome time together without any stress for a little bit, but this is Supernatural we’re talking about. Things never stay good for that long.

During that match they were watching, there was a father and son behind them. The father went to use the bathroom after drinking a beer, but chose not to go inside because the line was too long and he couldn’t wait. So, instead, he “drain(s) the dragon” (his words not mine) outside, and it ends up getting him killed. The cuts on him seem to be ritualistic to Sam, so he thinks they may have a case and they decide to investigate.

While Sam does his own research, Dean heads inside to ask some questions, but at first there’s no one there. Cue Dean living out his wrestler dream for a little while and practicing his moves in the ring. He was truly enjoying himself and it was awesome. The woman Sam used to have a crush on walks in on him and Dean’s embarrassed, but still asks her some questions. She says that maybe all the rumors about them being cursed are true and then proceeds to say that when they went on the road, a maintenance guy found a body stashed. Sam later finds out that at each stop, someone’s ended up dead. She agrees to put a list of everyone on their crew together for him and then says that he can find a lot of them at the nearest bar. Obviously, that’s where Dean ends up next.

Dean meets up again with Gunner Wallace in the bar and they share bruise experiences. Gunner also tells him that the one thing he’s learned is that you have to keep on grinding, no matter what’s thrown their way. Sam calls Dean while he’s there and tells him that they may be dealing with a demon since the cuts do prove to be ritualistic. While Dean’s still in the bar, he tests everyone with holy water in their shots, but he missed Harvey (who also accused Gunner of using drugs, which as we saw, is true).

They show up to Harley’s hotel room and see that his room is a mess inside when he doesn’t answer. The camera footage shows that Wallace took Harvey. He has him held captive, but Wallace isn’t the demon. Wallace’s dealer, Duke, is. He offers him anything he wants for his soul and service. He wants a favor from time to time (by favor, he means killing someone). Harley refuses because if there’s a demon, there’s a hell, and if there’s a hell, there’s a heaven, and he wants to end up in heaven. Smart guy. Duke tortures him and tells Gunner to do the same.

Sam and Dean show up to save him, but Duke pushes them against the wall. Gunner’s sent after Dean, while Duke takes on Sam. Dean tries to talk some sense into Gunner and tells him that it’s never too late to do the right thing and he does, because he lets Dean out and Gunner kills Duke, but then the hellhounds come and instead of killing himself, he takes the brutal death he felt he deserved to experience.

Each day in Hell Crowley’s being treated more and more like a dog and it’s upsetting to watch how little Lucifer’s made him. One of Crowley’s people that is now under Lucifer’s rule is planning to escape and tells him to come with her. They’re successful in their escape. They go to his storage space in order for Crowley to get the Rod of Aaron, which is a Hand of God, and then Lucifer crashes the party. It turns out the girl that was helping him, Simmons, was actually working with Lucifer. Crowley’s too smart, though. He already got his hands on the Rod of Aaron and uses the powers on Lucifer and Simmons, but then the power stops and he has to snap away before Lucifer gets to him.

Keep grindin’. No matter how much it hurts. No matter how hard it gets. That’s what they have to do and that’s how they’re going to save Cas and defeat the Darkness. That’s the advice Gunner gave to Dean and that’s exactly what Dean tells Sam they’ll do.

Supernatural returns March 23 at 9/8c on The CW.

Supernatural 11x14 Recap: "The Vessel"

The Vessel.
In order to find a weapon to defeat Amara, Lucifer (Castiel) sends Dean back in time to the last reported sighting of the Hand of God. Lucifer has his own plan to get a hold on the weapon himself through Dean and sends him to a 1944 fated submarine ship that sunk at the Hand of God. While Dean's back in time, Sam is spending some time with "Cas."

Sam's been doing some research in history and discovered that there's a super weapon, called the Hand of God, that the Nazis had and were going to use to win the war. It was stolen, which is why they never won the war. The woman who stole it was a Woman of Letters. It was supposed to be transported to the bunker, but it instead never arrived and sunk on the USS Bluefin.

Crowley's being held like a dog in a very tiny cell by 'Cas' and he's calling him "Doggy." Such kindness showed by sweet little Luci. When asked what Crowley thinks about his rule, he says he's not strong enough, not even with his weapons. Lucifer's called away from Dean calls for Cas.

'Cas' says he can transport Dean to the time they need in order for him to be on the USS Bluefin. The plan is to get in, get the weapon, and get out. Sam's concerned about the plan and he's also concerned about Dean going back in time. As soon as things go south, 'Cas' can pull him right out. Doesn't mean Sam's still not immensely concerned. And with a touch of the shoulder, Dean's on the USS Bluefin with no Cas in sight.

'Cas', instead, shows up soaking wet and now that 'Cas' is back, Sam's trying to find some way to help Dean out. Meanwhile, Dean's found Delphine on his own and she gets on his case very quickly. He explains that he's a man of letters, but they're interrupted by the man whose clothes he stole. They find his phone, which they're so confused as to what it could possibly be, but then he admits that he's from the future and that within the hour, the ship will go down. The Captain doesn't exactly believe him though, not till he gets word of a German surface ship closing in on them.

He informs Delphine that his only way off the ship is an angel and he needs the sigils cleared off the ship in order for 'Cas' to be allowed in. Dean tells her that he needs her weapon in order to fight this war of the future, but all those on the submarine will die. She trusts him because they're both Men of Letters.

The Hand of God is made from the Ark of the Covenant and Delphine gives it to Dean to have. The man that's watching over them only wants to know when they win, and Dean tells him that they don't win till 1945. Everyone's manning their battle stations while Delphine is removing the sigils. The last one is on her chest and she hands Dean a knife and tells him to kill her. The power is within her blood, so she must die in order for it to lose its power. He doesn't do it right away and the ship is attacked.

Sam's found a spell that they could use that requires the power of an archangel, which is why it won't work... but they do have an archangel, Sam just doesn't know it. In order to help 'Cas' power up, Sam says that he can touch his soul, but then 'Cas' starts laughing. And that's when Sam finds out that it's actually Lucifer in Cas' power. Lucifer doesn't need Sam anymore, he only needs Dean. And because Sam asked so "kindly," Lucifer touches his soul anyway. Luckily, the real Cas pushes through and stops him from hurting him further. He's able to say that he chose this and Cas needs to fight back and eject him now, but it's taking him all of his strength to stop him from killing Sam, but they need Lucifer to save Dean.

The man Delphine killed earlier in the episode is actually alive and is captain of the German ship that's after them. They offer a trade, but she refuses. Instead, she takes the Hand of God and uses its power, but as she's being consumed by the power, Lucifer snaps in and snaps Dean back, where Sam immediately screams that he's not Cas. Lucifer starts to attack Dean and Sam, and was going to try to use the Hand of God on them, but it turns out it was a one time use kind of thing. And Sam used his own blood to draw a sigil the he then uses to blow Lucifer away.

Now the plan is to hunt Lucifer and get Cas back. Dean had an eyewitness experience by going back in time, and the way the ship went down was by burning and sinking, what he saw happening while he was there. Next Wednesday, the brothers are headed to a wrestling match and Lucifer's beating up on Crowley. Big reveal tonight with Lucifer outing himself, so it'll be interesting to see how they get Cas back and since there's no Hand of God anymore, how they decide to go after Amara next.

Supernatural 11x13 Recap: "Love Hurts"

Love Hurts.
It's Valentine's Day on Supernatural tonight and what better way to spend it than investigating some murders? Sam and Dean are dealing with an ancient curse that marks a person to die. Not the love filled episode you'd hope Sam and Dean would have, but hey, this is Supernatural we're talking about.

A 19-year old babysitter, Stacey, was murdered in Ohio after she was having an affair with the father of the children she babysat for. Ironically, her heart was ripped out on Valentine's Day. Dean and Sam go to investigate and while Sam's going to the morgue, Dean goes to talk to the husband, Dan, that was screwing the babysitter. Dean knows and he gets him to admit that he was having an affair. He took the nanny cam (which was missing) because they had kissed in front of it. He just wanted to erase the kiss first, but then he saw what was on it. It's him, entering the room, and ripping her heart out. He claims he was there at dinner the entire time and is panicked that Dean won't believe him, but Dean does. Let's face it, weirder things have happened.

Things get even weirder when Stacey shows up at the husband's office and then his heart is ripped out of his chest. So, another crime scene. They think they're dealing with a shifter. Sam and Dean need to question his wife, Melissa, so they ask if she knew about the affair. She admits she did and says that she thought they still had a chance. To ensure she's not the shifter they think they're dealing with, Dean uses they subtle silver pen trick, and she's not, so they're going to have to do some research.

Melissa may not be the shifter, but she's got a box of hex items hidden away in one of her cabinets. She puts them down the garbage disposal and calls a friend saying she thinks she messed up and that Dan is now dead, along with her babysitter. However, that night, 'Dan' tries to get into her house, going so far as to break through to door to get to her. She's successful in getting away and goes to Sam and Dean's motel. She tells them that her hairdresser told her that there was a way to get her husband back. Her hairdresser is supposedly a white witch and she gave her a 'spell'. Luckily, she still has a copy of what is actually a curse. The curse loosely translates to the kiss of death. Basically, because Stacy kissed Dan, they both have the kiss of death, and now the curse wants to make its way back to her. After Evil Dan crashes into their motel, in a moment of wanting to protect Melissa, he kisses her, so now he's the one that's cursed. Sam knocked him down and they were able to get away, but we saw the Curse change into a woman as they drove away. This also proves their theory that the curse is transmittable.

To figure this whole curse thing out, Sam and Dean go to visit the white witch, Sonya. They don't find her, but they find her spell book and they see that the way to stop the curse is to stab it in the heart. The curse calls about your deepest, darkest desire and is called the Kareen. But they have to stab the heart of the person that is the controller of the curse and Sam finds the heart in a box, but is unable to stab it in time before Sonya shows up. She's putting a spell on him that is blocking him from breathing, but Melissa shows up to tell her to stop. That distraction allows Sam to kill her.

While Sam's upstairs dealing with Sonya, Dean's downstairs when the Darkness shows up. He's aware that it's the Kareen. She says that she can feel the love he feels in his heart, but it's cloaked in shame. Dean admits that the real Amara does have a hold on him, but the imitation has none. And they start fighting and she almost punches his heart out, but Sam is able to stab the heart in time and she goes poof. Everyone's safe again, for now.

When they get back to the hotel, Sam asks who it was he saw that was trying to get to him. And Dean tells him it was Amara. Sam's not surprised and Dean isn't particularly surprised, either, but he's not happy about it. He's not happy that Amara is his deepest, darkest, desire. He wants to kill the Darkness, he wants to run a truck through her, but as soon as he's in front of her, things change. Sam understands, even though it's not a good thing at all. The good thing is that now Dean's being open with Sam about what's going on and how he's feeling, and he's being honest about he fact that he struggles if he's put in a position to kill her.

As for tonight's episode, an entertaining episode overall, but the most important part was definitely Dean telling Sam about Amara. How that impacts how they go after her will be interesting to see. Next week, Sam and Dean are dealing with time travel and we're seeing what Lucifer's up to in Hell, so we'll see what goes down with that next Wednesday.

Supernatural 11x12 Recap: "Don't You Forget About Me"

Don't You Forget About Me.
Jody Mills, Alex, and Claire are all back on tonight's episode of Supernatural. The reason why is because Sam and Dean received a panicked phone call from Claire, who thinks the recent murders in town are due to something supernatural. Problem is, she's been having a rough time identifying who the real monsters are and who an average person is. Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Sam and Dean find themselves in South Dakota and reunite with Jody after Claire's call. While they're enjoying Jody's delicious cooking, Claire insists that there are monsters around, while Jody says there's no evidence behind it. Claire's been wrong in the past though and has harmed innocent people and when Alex is taunting her about it, Claire reveals that Alex has been having sex with her boyfriend, Henry, but they actually haven't done anything. She's trying to be prepared, which is why she has the birth control pills in her bag. This entire conversation happens with Sam and Dean at the table, which is quite funny.

Jody's worried that she can't connect with Claire and Alex, but more Claire, and she talks to Dean about it. Things with Alex clicked this year, but she still feels like she can't talk to her about certain things because she's not her mom. The bigger concern comes with Claire, since she thinks she may be hiding in hunting and hasn't gone to school in weeks. So, Sam goes to talk to her and he expresses his concern that she's trying to escape something as a hunter. She admits that she feels a little late to their family and thinks that maybe she should just head out on her own, but Sam tells her not to because the monsters will always be there, but a chance at a family won't be.

Alex's favorite teacher is killed and his body is found taped to the top of a flag pole on school campus. So, Claire was right, there is something up in the town, but Dean's got some words for her. She needs to learn to appreciate Jody. Everything she's done, Claire hasn't asked for. She's done her some huge favors and Claire needs to respect her more. Nice to see Dean taking charge and talking some sense into Claire here.

This includes going to enroll in college classes instead of going with Sam and Dean as FBI agents to do some questioning and investigating. The custodian they interviewed earlier is the monster in this story, a vampire actually who was from Alex's old nest, and he's found Jody and Claire and attacks them before they get into their car. Even though Jody's being hurt, she's able to call Dean and let him know that they're in trouble from her cry for help.

Alex is struggling with her past and the bad things she's done and she wants to tell Henry, but he says that he doesn't care what her past is. She doesn't have to tell him anything she doesn't feel comfortable taking about. And when she finds out the vampire's from her old nest, she wants him to leave before he gets hurt, but he's also a vampire. So, she's also in trouble. The custodian, Rich, is after Alex because he drove her back to her home 3 years ago and she left him for food for the nest she was living with. When he went home, he lost control, killed his wife, and made it his goal to hurt Alex ever since.

Rich turned Henry into a vampire and sent him after Alex. He would raise her up and Rich would cut her down. None of their relationship was ever real. And since Claire and Jody are there, as well, Rich plans on hurting them in order to hurt Alex. Luckily, Sam and Dean decipher where they're hiding (an old pool building that was shut down because it was unsafe for the school to use) and are on their way to help rescue them. Unfortunately, there are some injuries. Jody's leg is probably broken and Claire was bit, but didn't drink the blood, so she'll be okay. And they work together to slice both Rich and Henry's heads off. Goodbye, vamps.

This event definitely helps to bring them closer as a family, which is nice to see. And Claire realizes what she has, especially from how Jody went after the vampire to protect her. So, the three of them are safe, and so are Sam and Dean. This episode didn't move the Darkness story forward, but it was nice to catch up for Jody, Alex, and Claire to see what's been going on with them, and to take a small break from the Darkness story, like the last episode. Next week's episode will be Valentine's Day themed, and knowing Supernatural and after watching the preview, it looks like we'll be seeing a bloody one!

Supernatural 11x11 Recap: "Into the Mystic"

Into the Mystic.
There's a special song being played on Supernatural this week, but this one isn't pleasant. Instead, it's causing violent deaths and Sam and Dean are on the case to stop them.
Sam's not sleeping well because he's hearing Lucifer's voice over and over in the bunker and he hasn't gone out for days. Dean's found a case in the paper that he thinks will get them out and about. Since they've had zero new information on Amara, and according to Dean, Cas is fine like always, he thinks they should check this one out.

Meanwhile, we all know that Cas is serving as Lucifer's vessel and he's choosing to spend some time in the park. Another angel has noticed that Lucifer's occupying the vessel and attempts to kill him, but gets his body blown to blood splatters before even having a chance. Ah, the things he can do at the snap of his fingers.

Mildred Baker (guest star Dee Wallace), a resident of the hotel where a man suddenly was found dead with no signs of break in, has a special role in this case. Dean questions the manager regarding any ghost signals, but there's no sign of it from him. However, the man did piss off lots of the other residents, one of which is dead, so they burn his bones and hope that's the end of it. That is until the manager heres the song and screams and kills himself, as well. This time, Mildred sees it, and sees the creature that was feeding off him.

While Dean continues to speak to Mildred, Sam goes to speak to Marlene, a housekeeper, who actually doesn't answer at first because she's deaf. She's able to understand and speak back, and although she doesn't have any information for him, they incorporated American Sign-Language into the episode, which was a nice touch. Sam even makes an attempt to say 'Thank You' through ASL in response, but makes a mistake, which she corrects. Including ASL wasn't the only thing she brought to this episode, she's also very curious as to what Sam and Dean are up to.

After some research, Sam and Dean come to the conclusion that they're probably dealing with a banshee. And according to what they've found out, they prey on the vulnerable, so while Dean goes to get supplies, Sam's going to find out who could be the next target. Dean heads back to the bunker to find a visitor going through all of their files, looking for a way to kill Amara. 'Cas' admits that he missed an opportunity, and then Dean opens up about missing two, himself. He also tells him about the attraction, connection, whatever it is, between them, and how he has a hard time resisting it.

Mildred knew that Sam and Dean had to be monster hunters because they're "too cute to be FBI agents." Since Mildred has a medical condition that makes her vulnerable, Sam talks to her and says that he and Dean are going to protect her. Sam also asks her about Marlene, but the staff member named Marlene that is usually working is on vacation right now, and as far as she knows, she's not deaf. Quite suspicious, so Sam follows her. Problem is, she thinks that Sam and Dean are the banshees, but Sam tells her to test him and she sees that he's not.

In the beginning of the episode, we see a flashback of a baby whose parents are killed by the banshee 30 years ago. This baby is Marlene, whose actual name is Eileen. Eileen is also a hunter who was trained from a very young age, and, her parents weren't the only thing taken from her. The same banshee that killed her parents is also the reason why she's deaf. Her mother's father was also part of the Men of Letters. Her story checks out and they develop a plan, which includes using Mildred as bate, which Sam's hesitant to do.

As the sun starts to set, Mildred spends some time talking to Dean and he helps to take her mind off of what they're waiting for. And she tells him that the secret to a long happy life is to follow her heart, like she did. They talk for a little bit of time until it's time to face the banshee, who doesn't go after Mildred, but Dean instead. And that causes him to start banging his head against the wall to make the song stop. Mildred does as Eileen told her, cuts her hand, places it on the symbol, which causes the banshee to be stuck on the opposite wall in place, and Eileen kills her.

So, everyone's safe and sound, although Dean has a few bruises. Sam offers Eileen to call anytime whether she needs help or just to hang out, so there's a possibility we can see her again in the future. And as Mildred's saying goodbye to Dean, she says she can tell that Dean's pining for somebody else. And Dean responds that he is "single and ready to mingle."

While Sam and Dean are back at the bunker, Dean mentions that something seems a little off about him, but Sam points out that something always seems off about him, which isn't not true, but they agree to keep an eye on them. Sam admits that Dean was write, being back on the job did help. And he also talks about how he's sorry that he didn't look for Dean while he was in purgatory. He hasn't forgiven himself for that, but Dean has. It's in the past now, and all that matters is that they're together, enjoying beers. And when Sam asks Dean why the banshee would go after him if they go after vulnerable people, he brushes it off as if it was out of self defense. Secrets are never good, Dean. And now, while Sam is able to sleep, Dean's struggling to, instead.

Next episode, Jody Mills and Claire Novak are back, and Claire's been doing some hunting. So we'll see what they've been up to. I really enjoyed tonight's episode and I also love that they incorporated ASL into it. It was definitely a nice thing to watch on screen. Definitely a good one that brought us back to the single episode cases, and it seems like next week we'll be doing the same with another monster case.

Supernatural 11x10 Recap: "The Devil in Details"

The Devil In Details.
Now that Sam's trapped in the cage (again), things are about to get interesting for him, Dean, and Cas. However, Lucifer's got an idea and he's going to do everything is his power to try and get Sam to join him. After the angel smiting, there's talk that Amara might be dead, so Dean and Cas go to check that out. Let's talk about what went down. Warning: Spoilers ahead.

While stuck in the cage with Lucifer, he's doing a bit of talking to Sam, saying that he "needs" him. They're taking a trip through Sam's memories together. We start at teenage Sam (Colin Ford)  studying with a girl and then that progressing to them kissing. This Sam is bold and decisive, according to Lucifer. Next stop on the trip was Sull Cemetery, where Sam and Lucifer came face to face in the Season 5 finale. Here, Lucifer says Sam had "balls," but now he's grown soft. Next is when Sam is with Amelia and Dean's in purgatory. He's not looking for Dean, though, and it's because he can't stand to lose Dean, again. That's the problem according to Lucifer. Sam would do anything to save Dean, and Dean would do anything to save Sam, and they choose each other instead of the world, so people die. In order to defeat the Darkness, he has to be ready to die and ready to watch the people he loves die, but he's not strong enough to win this one according to Lucifer; too weak to fight to fight.

Crowley's mad about Rowena's working with Lucifer, but more importantly, her tricking him. Crowley's aware of how much of a Devil Lucifer actual is, but Rowena doesn't seem to understand exactly what she's done. What's in it for her? When Lucifer wins against the Darkness, she'll be sitting next to him at his throne in Heaven. Because he's been able to defeat the Darkness before, she believes he'll be able to do it again.

Dean's fallen ill due to smiting sickness, so now he's vomiting and may have a fever. The closer he and Cas get to the blast site, the worse he'll become. Cas doesn't want Dean following him because he won't fall in, and Dean agrees because he's vomiting and definitely not looking so hot. Cas runs into another angel, Ambriel, while he's there and he notices that although it's the middle of the afternoon, it's still dark in that area. While they're exploring the area, Ambriel comes across Amara's body, who is still very much alive. And that's the last of her. Amara eats and she takes in the darkness, again. When Cas arrives to the scene, she doesn't kill him though, instead she has a job for him and she transports him to hell.

So while Cas does that, Dean's trying to find Sam, only to find out from Crowley that he's in hell with Lucifer. And he's going to hell. Fun fact: the password for hell is "Camptown ladies sing this song, doo dah, doo dah. Camp town races five miles long, oh the doo dah day." He meets Billie, the reaper, who lets him in to take the long walk down. And Dean has a device that they can use on Rowena to make her Crowley's slave. Even though she had a hex bag on him that allowed him to hear, she drank the tea he gave her, which prevented her form being able to run away, so now she's under his control.

Back in the cage, Lucifer's still trying to convince Sam that they can beat the Darkness together. In order to save the world, he needs to make that big sacrifice, but he still refuses. Sam thinks that whoever wins, whether it be Lucifer or the Darkness, everyone else loses. So he's not going to be his bitch, and that really pisses Luci off, so he starts to beat him up. Problem is, Dean and Cas run by the cage when they hear the commotion, so they get transported in at the snap of Lucifer's fingers. He's even got music for the party. Lucifer threatens that either Sam says yes, or his brother dies, but Cas jumps in to save Dean, and when Rowena's spell is casted, Lucifer was touching Cas, and that certainly wasn't good because although Lucifer was gone, Cas didn't seem like himself afterwards. That's because before Rowena completed her spell, Castiel said yes to allowing himself to become Lucifer's vessel, making the spell void. And he makes it seem as though she's the token of his affection, until he snaps her neck.

This is definitely a thing I like in the plot line for this season and I'm looking forward to seeing more. Also, I am so excited to see Misha Collins play the role of the vessel of Lucifer, because in the short scene we saw him do it, he was fantastic. Definitely some good and exciting things to come, it seems.

Supernatural Season 11 Midseason Finale: O Brother Where Art Thou?

O Brother Where Art Thou?
Amara's unleashed her powers on local townspeople and Dean's on the hunt again to find out what kind of hold she has on him and why. Meanwhile, Crowley and Sam are working together to come up with a plan will have disastrous consequences. Mark Pellegrino reprises his role as Lucifer as we revisit the cage in tonight's midseason finale. Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Sam had another vision of Lucifer and in it, Lucifer touched him and he felt calm. Dean's concerned with why God would even ask this of him and is concerned with how they even know it was real. The thing is, there was a burning bush, like the Bible story.

So, they talk to Crowley about the Darkness. Crowley wasn't successful in stopping her, but it's because she chose Dean. And that's when he tells her that she's God's sister. Dean wants to know if Sam can meet with Lucifer, but Sam's only okay with it if it happens in the cage because he doesn't want to let him out. In order for the plan to work, they're asking Rowena for her help for this plan to be successful. If she helps, she's no longer going to be constantly looked over by Crowley. All they need know is how to open it and how to protect Sam once he's in.

Amara's a fully grown adult and she's trying to pray. She doesn't understand why only dead people can see God. She thinks that everyone is being manipulated. No one knows what he's really like, but the priest says that God is the light and that light vanquishes the Darkness. She also slaughters the whole church later on in hopes of trying to get him to show himself in some way to her.

The angels are also banding together against the Darkness. The factions are getting past each other and they plan to stand united.

Dean comes face-to-face with Amara once again because he felt her presence. While they see each other, Sam calls Dean as he promised he'd do, but Dean doesn't answer. She transports him to an open grassland area. She explains that the reason why she's harmed all of these people is to try and get God's attention. Dean then says that it isn't right for her to take people's lives when the issues they have are between her and God. According to Amara, it was always his way or the high way. And she wonders if there was no pain, no rules, just bliss, the feeling she brings about. Amara's trying to convince Dean to agree with her plan, but Dean doesn't believe her and he attempts to kill her, but the blade simply shatters against her. She can't be resisted and then she kisses him, and he kisses her. According to her, it's destiny for them to be together and they will become one. The angels arrive at their meeting spot and Amara begins killing them and she's finally got God's attention.

Meanwhile, Rowena, Crowley, and Sam are heading through hell to an area where they can summon Lucifer without actually opening the cage and Rowena is successful in calling him. Rowena's drooling over him as Sam and Lucifer talk. Lucifer wonders what everyone else is wondering: where is God in all of this? And Sam goes on to tell him that he's reached out to him and has answered his prayers, and that his suggestion was to seek out Lucifer. Lucifer helped God lock up the Darkness last time. That's why Lucifer needs to go top side, according to him, and that means he needs a vessel, AKA he needs Sam. Lucifer thinks it's so easy for him to agree, but Sam's not going to just disappear. And after Sam thinks about it, he stands his ground and he refuses to do it. We never really see the Winchesters terrified, but Sam's face was plastered in fear once he found out it was actually Lucifer speaking to him. A round of applause to Jared Padalecki for some awesome acting that even made those watching feel the terror on his face.

Problem is, the barrier gets broken down and Sam's transported back into the cage with Lucifer. Another problem, God was never doing the talking. It was Lucifer. Lucifer was able to reach out through the small breaks in the cage. God was never with him and now Sam's stuck with Lucifer.

Well, damn it. That's the only reaction I have. Not as intense of a midseason finale as we've had in the past action wise, but definitely intense with the information given and what went down. A great way to end the first half with us now having two big bad. Old Luci and the Darkness. It'll be interesting to see where the writers take us with this storyline. Time's not being wasted this season and it'll be interesting to see how things turn out, especially next episode.

Supernatural returns January 20, 2016 at 9 PM EST on the CW.
