The promo for tonight's episode had me excited for a few reasons. First, Bobby. We haven't seen Bobby in quite some time, so I'm so glad he came back for an episode. Second, more discussion about the Mark. We all knew that killing Cain didn't actually help Dean, so now, what will? And third, the promo showed that we'd be seeing that darker Dean again, and as much as I love Dean as his normal self, I absolutely love seeing Jensen play a darker character. Warning: This post does contain spoilers.
Sam was woken up during the night to hearing Dean scream his name. He was having nightmares and the look on Sam's face was pure terror that something even worse was happening, but the nightmares are so hard for him to see his brother go through, also. You could see the pain he felt watching his brother go through one.
Sam left Dean alone to go and search for more information about the Mark with Cas, but he didn't tell him that. Instead, he said he would going to see a French movie. He was hesitant, but he knew he needed to find something to help his brother in any way. They didn't want to, but they chose to go and see Metatron. Hannah was the one they met and she asked how Cas was doing first and foremost. She explained that Cas wasn't allowed in Heaven to talk to Metatron and they had no choice but to walk away because there were four other angels there who they couldn't fight off. Team Free Will always finds a way and it's no surprised their next plan of action was to break him out.
In order to do that, they needed a little help. They contacted Bobby in the spirit world and I love that they used his hat to do that. I love the fact that they kept his hat in the first place. Sam explained the whole situation to Bobby and Bobby felt that he couldn't help because he hasn't done much. Sam believed he could and that was definitely encouraging for him. They just needed him to try. Bobby got to the door they needed him to reach in order to open up the portal and Cas jumped in.
Dean took his own little me day. Went to the bar, got a plate of nachos, and even played a game of pool... well actually, hustle pool. He's definitely till got it when it comes to playing. I love watching scenes like that because it reminds me of older episodes. And, the demon eyes were back, even just for a split second. Rowena showed up at the bar with all the little symbols she drew on herself and turned the guys against Dean. Dean almost killed the men, but he stopped himself. No matter what he did, the guys would die because of Rowena's spell. Interesting part of this particular scene was that her witchcraft didn't work on him because of the Mark. he should have been torn apart, but he wasn't. Also, Dean apparently didn't know that Crowley and Rowena were related. Rowena ran home to Crowley and bloodied herself up in order to try and turn Crowley against Dean and take action. Crowley was having none of that until she yelled at him to finally show that he's the king. That line may have gotten to him just a bit. She also said that she would find a way to get rid of the Mark to kill Dean. She's doing it for the wrong reasons, but she's now looking for a way to remove it along, too.
A Crowley and Dean scene. Something we haven't really scene since the beginning of the season. Crowley said he knew Rowena was lying, but wanted to talk to Dean, himself. Dean straight out said Crowley had gone soft and Crowley sees it, also. They've both changed in certain ways. Crowley said he wouldn't cut ties with his mother because she's family, but Dean offered his own advice on the matter. "A wise man once told me, 'Family don't end in blood,' but it don't start there, either." Crowley finally saw that his mother wasn't treating him like family and he was able to cut ties with her.
Cas and Bobby got Metatron out of Heaven. Sam and Cas took away his grace and that gave them leverage. He was lying the entire time about knowing how to get rid of the Mark because he wanted to screw them over. No surprise. I really can't wait for him to be gone. However, he did know that there was some of Cas' grace left and that's the only thing kept him alive. Cas was well ready for Sam to put a bullet through him until he said that.
Bobby gave Cas a letter for Sam and it brought on emotions. It was such a good letter. He told him that yes, Dean can be stubborn, but maybe he needs to know what Sam's doing to try and help him even if he has given up. "Sometimes, the bad is real bad... and the good, it can come at one hell of a price." I really loved the part where he said that Sam was a good man and he was damn proud of him. The entire letter was just fantastic. I want it framed, I'm not even kidding about that. It was beautiful. And what better way than to show Bobby looking at a picture of the three of them as Sam was reading it.
I enjoyed tonight's episode, but specifically Bobby's letter. I also really liked the Dean and Crowley scene. Definitely some good quotes in this one. Charlie's back after the week hiatus and I'm so excited to see her again. She's my favorite female guest character on the show, by far, so I always love seeing her. Be sure to check back over the course of the next two weeks since I'll probably be posting something else related to Supernatural and of course, be sure to check for another recap on April 15th.
