Arrow (Episode 3x19) Recap

Tonight begins the final stretch of episodes and it's also the episode that someone is supposedly going to die. The look ahead trailer for the rest of the season looked great, so I was certainly looking forward to what this episode would bring. (Warning: This post contains spoilers.)

The moment between Roy and Oliver in the prison in the beginning of the episode broke my heart. Oliver looked so upset. He was seeing his friend take the blame for something because he feels like he should do this for Oliver. And the line that hurt most was definitely, "For the first time since I remembered what I did... I'm okay." Roy's character is so strong and brave, but also wants to make things right and that guilt from what happened while under Mirakuru still plagues him. He feels as though this will finally make things right, but what he's doing as Arsenal is good. It's good for the city. Thea and Roy's scene at the prison also killed me. I love their relationship so much, I've said it countless of times. Oliver was determined to break him out.

Lance, oh my God. He literally does not give up and it started to annoy me this episode so much. Also, not to mention, he broke the fern. Felicity wiped the entire place so that Oliver's prints weren't found by Lance and his crew in the lair, so the only prints they found were Roy's. The pain on Oliver's face was brutal because he would much rather be the one in that cell than Roy.

A metahuman, Deathbolt, showed up in Starling and being that Oliver couldn't go out and fight it, he needed a little help. Felicity suggested that they get help from Ray, which when Ray decided to call it a 'team up', Oliver looked 100% done with everything. Not to mention, he also looked very upset and worn down from everything going on. He also semi-snapped at him when he got annoyed with his small, "Stop calling it a team up, Ray." Oliver gave him fair warning that if he got in over his head, he was going to step in and he definitely was in over his head. He was getting his ass kicked, to be honest. Oliver was taking none of it and had so much authority this episode, especially when it came to Ray, I loved it.

The scene with Roy in the jail when he was attacked had me so worried. He was cut in a few spots, but it certainly wasn't okay that he was attacked. The fact that the guards rushed in and put Roy face down on the ground when he was standing there so innocent got me so annoyed. This kid just protected himself. Did they expect him to stand there and let him kill him? Thea finding out about this and then Oliver finding out from her caused Oliver to finally say enough is enough. He was going to break Roy out of jail, no matter what happened to him. John tried to talk him out of it and Oliver got so mad to the point where he actually pushed Diggle away from him when he tried to calm him down. He's pissed off at everything right now, but he's even more upset with himself, and that frustration is coming out in so many different ways. He can't sit down the entire time, he wants to be proactive in helping. "I've already lost everything. I'm not going to lose Roy." He can't deal with losing Roy because he'd feel responsible. He feels like he's lost everything already -- his city, his family, his girl -- but that's not true at all.

Felicity was able to calm him down. His thinking is rash and not going to help anyone in the way he was about to act. He's sacrificed everything for the Arrow, even Felicity, and breaking Roy out doesn't change the fact that Ra's took that away from him. He doesn't know who he is anymore, but Felicity knows who he is. She almost said that he's the man she fell in love with, but instead, she said that he's the man she believes in, because she does believe in him. She helped him realize that he needs to take a step back and breathe, figure out where to go from there instead of going full throttle, which would probably land him in a cell next to Roy's like Diggle said.

When Deathbolt got a hold of Felicity, Oliver didn't care at all about how he could get caught. It's Felicity who's out there. She's grown so much since the first season and she knows how to fight back. She got back long enough for Ray, being controlled by Oliver, to show up in the Atom suit. What a difference between Oliver fighting and Ray. Even when Oliver lost control of the suit, he was urging Ray to fight back. He helped him push through that. If Oliver wasn't there talking to him in order to help him, he probably wouldn't of survived.

The moment that killed me most of all was by far the moment Roy was stabbed. The scene that followed only killed me further. Thea finding out Roy was 'killed' and Oliver finding out afterwards killed me. Felicity and Diggle have tricks up their sleeve and they had the plan from the beginning. Roy was stabbed by a professional in just the right way that allowed him to live. The entire city thinks the Arrow is dead, but Roy's alive, safe and sound. The sad part about this all is that he had to disappear and leave, which broke my heart, but I'm glad he's okay. Ray also noticed the way Felicity acted around Oliver and you can see he noticed that there was clearly something between them.

Thea looking through the pictures of her and Roy also broke my heart. I hope he comes back at some point in the future. Ra's al Ghul showed up at her place in order to give Oliver sufficient motivation to become the heir to the Demon. Thea tried to put up a fight, but against Ra's al Ghul, she couldn't do much against him. He stabbed her, which will get the reaction he wants from Oliver. The Lazarus Pit will no doubt come into play and be used on Thea to bring her back to life.

Tonight's episode was fantastic. It was intense, had me on the edge of my seat, and just so well done. The only thing it was missing was the Raylicity breakup, but that will come soon enough. I really enjoyed it so much. Next week, we get the Lazarus Pit and the Olicity scene that everyone has been talking about was in the promo, so that comes in a week also. Should be interesting and I'm obviously looking forward to it.
