Supernatural (10x18) Recap

Supernatural is on a straight run from tonight's episode till the end and I have a feeling it's going to be an intense one. Charlie was back tonight, and I've said it before, but I love getting to see her character. She provides some brightness into the very intense moments. This whole 'Book of the Damned' sounded interesting and there were supposed to be some secrets involved, so I was looking forward to seeing exactly what those were. (Warning: This post contains spoilers.)

Charlie dug up the Book of the Damned and she was attacked because of it. The only problem is it's written in a different language that they need to translate. Charlie was able to protect herself, but she did get shot. Unfortunately, the guys were still able to track it. The Book of the Damned holds lots of promise because it has a way to undo any kind of damnation there is. I also love the way Dean calls Charlie "kiddo". It's so cute, let's be real.

Cas was actually sick of Metatron and it made me laugh because he was reacting that same as basically the majority of the people watching the show. He wanted to kill him and be done with it, but he needed his grace and Sam reminded him of that. That certainly didn't stop him from punching him, which was nice to watch because I, personally, am not a fan of Metatron at all. Even when they went to the diner, Metatron was trying to make conversation and he quite literally looked like he wanted to stab him right then and there. He was beyond pissed and still holding a grudge that he killed Dean, which isn't a surprise. They were attacked by a Cupid and the surprising part was that Metatron actually helped Cas out. Metatron thought he was being smart by weakening Cas, but Cas doesn't give up. He solved the riddle and got his grace back and I was so happy for him. Metatron, in turn, got the Demon Tablet, but that's by far overshadowed by Cas' grace being restored. He finally has his wings back, though they are broken. Hopefully they'll heal.

Dean was in such a good mood when they were driving to meet Charlie. There was finally solid hope that there was something to get rid of the Mark and it was so nice to see a smile on his face and him goofing around. The show also finally used 'The Boys Are Back In Town' for the music part of the scene and I think everyone was happy about that. When they got to Charlie, whatever happened when he touched the book was really weird, but that was the Book calling to him. He sensed something wasn't right. The special box Dean and Sam brought with them allowed them to hide the book from the tracking system the men were using, also known as the Styne family, or the bad guys of the episode.

Dean realized that the book wasn't going to help him and that caused an argument to spark between him and Sam. Sam refuses to let Dean accept the fact that there's no way to cure the Mark, but Dean has given up that the Book of the Damned is the answer. He knows that if that falls into the wrong hands, something bad will come of it, even if it falls into his hands, but Sam can't lose his brother. The scene between Sam and Charlie broke my heart. Sam told Charlie about how it started out by him saying, "just one more job," in the beginning, but then he realized that it became his life and he loves it. He can't be a hunter without his brother, though. He doesn't want to be a hunter without his brother.

Dean met the Stynes are the supply store and it certainly wasn't a pleasant encounter. He said that the Book could remove the Mark, but it would come with a price. Dean got away, but they followed. These guys were absolutely insane and so difficult to kill. Gun shots to the chest didn't even put them down right away. Dean let Sam know as soon as he got back to the cabin that the book contains a cure, but it comes with a price and they knew they had to get rid of it, so they decided to burn it, and Sam certainly made it seem like he did, but that wasn't true. In the process of everything going on, the defeated the Stynes.

Cas healed Charlie and I'm so glad he's got it back. The scene where they were all sitting around the table at the end eating pizza and drinking beers to celebrate the team win made me so happy because it was Sam, Dean, Cas and Charlie all together like a happy (or as happy as circumstances would allow), little family. Sam had some secrets of his own. He didn't burn the book because he knows it can help and because he needs someone who can help, he sought Rowena, who he absolutely does not trust, but figures can help in some way. I wish he would learn from the past, but the love he has for his brother by far overcomes any bad that can come from using the book.

Rowena's deal comes with a price, too. From the promo, it sounds like she wants Sam to kill Crowley, but we'll see next week. Benny is also back in next week because Dean ends up back in Purgatory for some reason, so I'm looking forward to seeing that friendship rekindle. I thought tonight's episode was great. As for the rest of the season, I think they're going to kill us, especially because of the happy family scene we got of them eating dinner and laughing. My guess is that Sam finds the cure from the book and in turn, uses it to cure Dean, but as a result it causes something even worse that will make season 10's finale painfully worse emotion-wise than season 5's finale. (Season 5's finale actually killed me. I was a mess.) I'll try and form a better theory as we get closer to the finale, maybe a week or two before I'll write it up as my 'Saturday Morning Musings' post for that week, but we'll see. I'm excited to see where this takes Sam and how everything else plays out because I truly think we're in for a crazy ride to the finale.
