Supernatural (10x22) Recap

The Prisoner. After last week's shocker with Charlie's death, Dean had his plans for revenge. He was going to find who killed her and he was going to kill them. Next week is the finale and this week was sure to bring buildup to that. The promo looked great. I was curious to see how Sam and Cas would react to Dean's hunt. The Book of the Dammed was also still being explored and Dean was definitely dealing with the effects of the Mark, that was only growing stronger.

Okay, this episode started with a Styne family scene, but it really started with Sam and Dean preparing Charlie's burning sight. The flashback scenes brought tears, I won't lie. Those definitely were so sad to see, but I also loved seeing them at the same time. Dean was so mad at Sam because she's dead. Sam tried to convince him that he was trying to help him, but Dean wasn't listening. It got to the point where he said, "It should be you up there instead of her," which was extremely cruel and hard to watch, honestly. He told him to shut down everything with the Book of the Damned. Dean was going to tear the people who killed her apart, and Sam did ask whether it was the Mark talking or him, but it doesn't matter at this point. Dean's going to get revenge.

The Styne family tried to push their younger cousin to be like them. They pushed him to butcher the boy who was bullying him at school after they captured him. Meanwhile, he wanted to get away from them. He was forced to take part in it, but he didn't want to do it at all, and it was clearly written on his face. This kid was a mess after he did that, and they wouldn't even let him leave afterwards. I felt so bad for him.

Sam returned to where Cas and Rowena were and broke the news to Cas. Sam was able to track Dean and he also got an email from Charlie in the midst that she sent before she was killed. It was all of her work to decode the book, which means that although Sam was going to shut it down at first, he wasn't going to anymore. Sam knows how it feels to be out there messed up and alone, and Dean's always been there for him. Sam feels that he owes that to Dean now. While Sam stayed with Rowena, who refused to read the book unless Crowley was dead, Cas went to find Dean and stop him from going to far because they didn't want it to end with the black eyes again.

Dean got the identification of the plates from Rudy, and sure enough it was the Stynes. He was on his way to find them when he got pulled over by the cops. What pissed him off was that one of the cops broke both of the back lights on his car and he certain wasn't thrilled with that, at all. No one touches his Baby. They arrested him, and they found his guns, knives, and fake IDs all in the car. He got away from one cop at the station, then went to face the other. This one was talking to one of the Stynes, who told him to pull over the driver of a '67 Impala if he saw him.

'Dean' called Crowley for help, but in actuality it was Sam. He shot him with a devil's trap bullet, and then placed a hex bag in his coat pocket. Rowena also had a message for Crowley, which let him know that it was his mother who sent Sam to kill him. That doesn't mean that Sam didn't think it was a long time coming. Sam thought Crowley was dying, but he actually only got stronger, and his eyes even turned this bloodshot red color for the first time ever. He was able to remove the bullet and throw Sam across the room. The magic Rowena used wasn't strong enough. After all, Crowley is the King of Hell. He could have killed Sam, but he didn't. Crowley was now going to go after Rowena full force.

Dean made it to the house, took down the people outside, but once he stepped through the front door, the other family members swarmed the staircase with guns and someone bagged him from behind. They thought they could butcher him, too, but Dean's too strong. He easily got loose and killed everyone in his way without an issue. Cas got to the Styne house, but wasn't in time to stop anything that happened there. He killed over a dozen people, brutally killed them, and now he was headed home to where the other Stynes were. Wasn't hard to guess what would happen to them.

The Stynes emptied everything into a pile that they planned on burning. This included a picture of their mom with them as babies & a picture of the Dean, Bobby and Sam. Dean killed one of them, and he showed up bloody to kill the other two. Eldon said that Charlie got what she deserved and proceeded to tell Dean what he did to her, but he quickly told him to shut up. Dean told him the news that his family was dead, and then he just put a bullet through his head. Simple as that. The younger cousin begged for his life, saying he was different and that Dean didn't need to kill him, but then he put a bullet through his head, too. Cas didn't show up in time to save the boy or Dean. Dean was pretty much overtaken by the Mark at this point.

The scene between the two of them was so tense. Dean was still pissed, and he knows the price of the magic, but Cas refuses to let Dean go. He refuses to let his friend turn again, because he will turn again. He may be able to hold out until everyone is dead, but Cas would have to watch it happen and watch him murder everyone. The sign that ultimately tells you Dean isn't himself is when he actually hurt Cas. Physically beat him up when he was trying to stop him, nearly drove the angel blade through him, but plunged it into the book beside him instead. Definitely one of the hardest scenes to watch this season because Dean had absolutely no control over himself. The Dean we've grown to know over the past ten years wouldn't do that, but the Mark had him.

That episode was so intense, but something that I've been waiting to see for so long. I've been wanting to see Dean snap, though it definitely isn't fun seeing him beat up Cas as bad as he did. He wants Sam and Cas to stay the hell away from him, but that's not going to happen, not with the book about to be uncoded. Next Wednesday is the finale and I'm so excited to see how this comes to an end. I'm also extremely scared. Dean is trying to remove it in his own way, while Sam is still working on the book with Cas and Rowena. Should be a good ending to the season.
