Supernatural (Episode 10x19) Recap

Sam's plans with Rowena were formally being developed tonight and from the previews, it seemed to be a good episode. The synopsis also said we would be seeing more of the Men of Letters in regard to a box one of the former members, Magnus, built that could possibly help cure Dean of the Mark. Dean was also set to meet up with Benny again, which I was definitely looking forward to. Let's get into the recap. (Warning: This post contains spoilers.)

Tonight's episode was the one that dealt with suicide that Jared Padalecki spoke about when the "Just Keep Fighting" campaign was going on. A young girl was at home and found a box behind a wall in her basement. After she tried to open it, some sort of spirit was released and her entire family committed suicide when she returned upstairs. Whatever this thing was, it certainly wasn't good.

Rowena and Sam had some more words regarding the book and their deal. Rowena can't read the book, but there is a witch that could, or once could. Her decryption formula was what Rowena needed. While Sam was making a deal, Dean took on a group of vampires on his own. He did it on his own because he couldn't wait around for Sam, especially when he constantly looks at him like he's a cursed "puppy."

At the Bunker that night, Sam found an audio reel from the Men of Letters. I loved getting to see some flashbacks to these guys. The flashback was about the Werther project, giving Sam the lead he needed. However, it was protected by very strong magic, so instead, he asked Rowena for a spell that could work. Sam went off on his own, but Dean knew he was working on a case on his own. He didn't know what it was for, but he just figured it was to get back at him for taking on the vampires alone.

The suicide home in the beginning scenes used to be one of the Men of Letters' chapter houses. Inside, was the Werther box Magnus built. When Sam failed to get into the house, Dean took his chances to distract the woman as Sam snuck in through the back and down to the basement. The woman was the daughter of the family who committed suicide. It definitely had an impact on her. She began to tell Dean about her family and said that something was in the basement, but then she pulled her gun, which she called Gus, on Dean. Sam's spell didn't work, but instead, it went into both Suzy and Dean. While Dean seemed to be okay at first, Suzy began to see her dead family, haunting her, pushing her to commit suicide. No matter how much Sam pleaded her to let him in, she wouldn't and Sam was too late. She shot herself, but that wasn't the end of her. She returned to talk to Sam as a ghost. She pushed at him, telling him that he was doing wrong, allowing people to die in order to save his brother; pushing him to kill himself, but Rowena showed up, causing her to vanish. However, I didn't notice this till later on, but Rowena wasn't actually there. She was Sam's own hallucination.

Dean, instead of being haunted, was transported to Purgatory, though he was still in the house. He was there, but somewhere else and Sam couldn't pull him out of it. It was really enough to Dean that he would say things out loud. Dean was convinced Benny wasn't actually Benny, he was just part of his subconscious. I loved seeing his character again, whether it was actually him or not. He also gave some information that maybe Dean knew himself. He was transported to Purgatory because he wanted to be there. That was his happy place and he didn't really want to leave. Dean craves the purity of killing with no consequence, but Dean himself doesn't crave that. He's tired of fighting. The Mark is what's craving that. Benny was pushing Dean to take his own life, but even Dean said it, there's no honor in that. 'Rowena' and Sam had tied Dean up to prevent him from hurting himself or anyone for that matter while they went down to the Werther box. That certainly didn't hold him for long. Dean knew the real Benny would never let him do it... the Mark wouldn't either, but Dean would do it if he had to. Instead, Dean stabbed the fake Benny and returned back to reality. The Werther box needed so much of Sam's blood to be opened, and Sam would just continuously keep giving it more till it opened.

Dean was okay, but Sam was losing so much blood. He wouldn't of stopped if Dean didn't stop him, but he did, and it happened to have enough blood to open. Dean didn't see Rowena, which was what told everyone that she was Sam's own projection, but like I said, it was hard to understand at first. Sam got what he was looking for. Also, what Deean said that the universe was trying to tell them was certainly true: They're better stronger than apart. Sam pretended to not know what it was they got from the box, but of course he did. He brought it to Rowena, but also cuffed her, wanting to make sure that she was going to keep her deal. He'll kill Crowley after he decrypts it, but until then, she's his prisoner. He wouldn't make a poor decision on his part mess things up.

I really liked tonight's episode. Particularly the scenes of Dean in Purgatory, but also the last one between Rowena and Sam. Next Wednesday will include Claire, as well as Cas needing to boys' help. Looks like she may have a few jabs, or at least one towards Dean, so I'm interested to watch, though it seems to be a slight break from the Book. As for today's recap, that's all. Hope you all enjoyed tonight's episode.
