What's Next for The Flash?

Season 1 has finished and now it's time to wait for Season 2 of The Flash to begin in the Fall. We haven't heard much about Season 2 yet, so what's next? Here's some things that I'd like to see develop and what we've been told so far. Keep in mind these are all theories and feel free to leave your own in the comments. (Warning: This post contains spoilers for The Flash.)

Eddie Thawne
Last we saw, Eddie was sucked into a wormhole after killing himself to cease Eobard from ever existing. Now, on shows like these, if a person isn't buried, there's always the likelihood they may come back. There's always the opportunity of a return. I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually see Eddie in the future, but maybe he'll have taken on a different identity. Maybe he will become the next Reverse-Flash. That's not the only direction they can go with this. A more interesting direction that I think most would prefer to see would be Eddie's return as Malcolm Thawne. Malcolm Thawne is most famously known for being Barry's lost twin brother and villain Cobalt Blue. They may not go the identical twin route, as the two don't look identical, but they could certainly go for close siblings/relatives or fraternal twins. When Eddie died, we got a close up of him lying on the ground. Most people noticed that he was wearing a talisman around his neck and it was speculated that it could be the talisman of Cobalt Blue. Since this can be a confusing topic, here's a link to a great blogpost that may help you understand it a bit more, as well as understand Cobalt Blue's story in the comics and nuances that show up throughout the season referencing it.

Multiverse
Grant Gustin has teased that we will be possibly seeing the diversity of timelines, maybe including an Earth-One and Earth-Two. For those that do not know, Earth-Two is DC's universe for the original heroes, while Earth-One holds all of DC's new heroes. This would mean that we may get to see different storylines at one time, ones where the course of events happens differently. This allows them to bring characters back, as well as introducing new ones. The thing is, these alternate universes may cause an issue for the writers when dealing with Arrow or Legends of Tomorrow, as we've already seen that their timelines connected.

Tom Cavanagh Returning
The talk of a multiverse brings me to my next topic. Tom Cavanagh will be returning for Season 2. As who remains to be seen, but it is confirmed that he will continue to be a regular. I have a feeling that he'll be the actual Dr. Wells this time, possibly in one of these different timelines. Then again, you never know, so we'll see if we get more news in the future about it.

Killer Frost and The Vibe
Whether it be during the alternate timeline or the present, Killer Frost, known to us now as Caitlin Snow, will be making an appearance. We got a very brief glimpse of her while Barry was trying to find the right moment to return back to, but the scenes that were shown there were of past, present, and future. It'll be interesting to see Caitlin as her villainous identity, no matter what the time period.

Caitlin isn't the only STAR Labs employee getting some powers. During one of Wells' (Eobard's) last conversations with Cisco, he mentioned that he, also, was affected by the Particle Accelerator explosion. This, according to Wells, was why he was able to recall visions from the alternate time period before Barry turned things back, that eventually helped him to know that Wells was the Reverse Flash. Cisco will most likely develop his identity as Vibe throughout the course of Season 2. For those that do not know him from the comics, his powers involve him creating shock waves that can shatter concrete or steel. Cisco discovering these powers is something to look forward to.

More Speedsters
Different timelines allow the writers to introduce different speedsters. In the finale, we saw the helmet of Jay Garrick come through Wells' time portal. This could possibly hint to getting to see Jay Garrick appear in a different timeline, or possibly make his way to Barry's. Barry could possibly find himself in a different time period, since we don't know what happened to him as a result of trying to close, and going into, the wormhole. There's also the possibility of seeing Wally West, or Kid Flash, which a lot of people hope we see at some point. It would most likely be in the future, unless he were to come back to present time, but it's something I hope they do at some point. There are plenty of possibilities for them to go to for this aspect, so it'll be cool to see who shows up in Season 2 and who we may get to see in seasons beyond that.

Season 1 didn't give many clues for what's to come, so this was the breakdown of what I've heard/taken from what we've seen throughout it. I'm excited for Season 2. The Flash has been called the best superhero show on television, and I agree that right now it is. I'm sure the writers have exciting things coming. If I missed anything or you would like to add something, feel free to leave it down below. I love hearing other people's thoughts about things. That about wraps up this post. The Flash returns this fall to the CW.

As a personal blog note, I've taken a little bit of a break from 'Saturday Morning Musings'. I'll resume them soon, but right now I'm preparing for the SAT and ACT so things have been a bit hectic on weekend mornings. They should return around mid-June though. In the meantime, most posts will be up weekday afternoons/nights or possibly Sunday nights. It depends on my schedule. They will return, though. General posting has been a little scattered since I'm busy finishing up this year of school, but everything should be back to normal after that's done.
