Stephen Amell - A New Insight To What Being Famous Means

In today's world, a famous person being involved with their fans to a great extent isn't very common. Yes, we'd all love for our favorite actors or singers to always interact, but most of the time it's not possible. So, how does Stephen Amell offer a new view to being famous?

It's 2015. Many people have abandoned their Facebook accounts and have taken to Twitter. I still have my Facebook account and I like it for a few reasons, but I really enjoy checking it for one main thing, or rather person, and that person is Stephen Amell. Stephen Amell has his own page that he controls. He's created a community through this page, where everyone knows the way to behave and the way to act towards each other. It doesn't matter when you joined the community, everyone is fully embraced. We're not simply fans following an actor though his social media, rather everyone in this community and Stephen, himself, considers it to be a community of friends.

He interacts through Q&A videos, responds to comments, hosts things such as 'Meme Mondays' or 'Lightsaber Saturdays', and shares with this group, which currently has over 3.4 million people He doesn't just use this platform to promote Arrow. He has fun with it. It comes off as completely natural. You can pose a question in the comments and the community takes to answering it, and sometimes even Stephen Amell himself will add his own answer, or even 'like' a comment. He also shares fan art, letting everyone see the incredible talent within the fandom, and also showing his appreciation for it. Not only does he do this by sharing it on the page, but he even has a wall dedicated to it in the room he films all his videos. There's also a hallway with the walls covered with it.

Some famous people use their social media for self-promoting. However, Stephen does the opposite. Yes, he promotes Arrow, but he also directs the attention to helping good organizations. The F&CK Cancer Campaign sold over 60,000 items, raising a tremendous sum of money for the foundation. The Sinceriously campaign sold over 50,000 items, another great sum of money that goes towards both Stand For The Silent and Paws & Stripes. And trust me, these certainly won't be the last. The definition for sinceriously was developed by the community as a whole because as Stephen said, it's a word he accidentally invented but the definition is ours as a community. Sinceriously means the ability to speak freely, openly, and honestly; about anything; to initiate any action while spreading as much good karma as possible. This not only is the definition of a great word that will hopefully be in the dictionary one day, but also defines the community. For both campaigns, he shared the photos sent in by people on the page, allowing everyone to get a chance to show their support. Besides running his own campaigns, he also helps raise awareness to things people in the Facebook community are doing, urging the community to help them out, as well.

Stephen gives the Facebook community more of a sneak peak to things than he does on his Twitter. He's said he enjoys using this a lot more for a multitude of reasons, but it also allows him to share a lot more without restrictions on how much he can say. He shares photos from set, of his beautiful family, exciting things happening, and is extremely involved. What I also love about his personality is that he's honest. He owns up to mistakes he's made. He's straightforward if something comes up and he can no longer make an event. He actually posted something regarding this two nights ago (March 2) and I wanted to include it as an example. He is no longer able to attend the Saturday for Planet Comicon due to an Arrow press event, but is taking a red-eye flight over to Kansas City to make it for the Sunday. Some celebrities wouldn't attempt to make it work out, but he did, and addressed the fans to apologize about not being able to make Saturday. You can see how genuine he is and how much he cares about his fans, or rather Facebook friends. He's a class act. He also tries to attend as many conventions as he can in order to meet the fans, and that's appreciated all around. He's also spreading the Facebook love by encouraging his actor friends to join, like Jared Padalecki who has recently created his own Facebook page.

I want to also address the hard work Stephen puts into his job. Through watching Arrow, you can see the skills he's learned and how much he cares about making the show look the best it could possibly be, to play the best Oliver Queen he can. It's admirable and it's inspiring to see a person love their job that much and to be so dedicated to it. He's excited about what he's doing and it's easy to see when he talks about the show, the characters, or even the fans. When someone is excited about something they're working on, that energy spreads. He's an incredible actor, not to mention a very funny person off the show, and it's always a joy to watch him. He balances these hectic workdays with having a family. He's definitely a family man. He shares photos, but is also very protective over this privacy, which everyone (or mostly everyone) knows and respects.

I love how genuine he is. You can easily tell that not one bit of his personality and the way he interacts is fake or put on. He's everything you need in a person to look up to, and I certainly do. He very quickly grew to be one of my favorite actors, simply from skill and personality. So, there you have it, a summary of why I, and a lot of other people, feel Stephen Amell has used social media in a way that has given a new look at what it means to be famous and use these platforms in the most positive way. I hope this post did justice to him and I only hope I'd have the opportunity to tell him thank you for everything in person one day. I sinceriously hope you all are having a fantastic week.

  2. Nice Work. Very few people use of their status to help other organizations. I have heard Goodsearch does that.
