After the Eye Candy episode last night I couldn't resist writing up a blog post about it. Since I normally don't post about this show, I want you to know that this post does contain spoilers. So if you don't know who the killer is and don't want to find out, please refrain from reading. I definitely don't want to be the one to spoil it for you. However, if you have watched the episode, feel free to read on.
Let's start out with the possibility of a season 2. I really do hope it gets renewed because it's a really interesting show. I, personally, enjoy it so much more than Pretty Little Liars, which has only a slight similarity of trying to find someone who is staying hidden in the dark. I also have to mention the great cast who really seem to love working together, also. I think the direction it can take could be great, but it's up to the ratings and right now, they aren't the greatest, but hopefully MTV sees that the people who do watch it really love it.
Onto the killer, I had originally ruled out Jake prior to this episode. One of my friends and I were actually going through who it could be and who we ruled out. He was one of those characters we ruled out, but as this episode began, I definitely sensed something was up. There were a few indications that he would be the killer in this particular episode, so I'm going to go through them one at a time.
The fight at the beginning of the episode between the killer and Detective Catherine caught my attention because it seemed to be important since the episode began with it. One thing in particular that I noticed was where she hit the person, especially due to the scene I'm going to talk about next. I'm not sure why, but maybe it's from watching shows like How To Get Away With Murder that I pay close attention to some really small details that you normally wouldn't think are important, but they certainly are in shows like these. This scene wasn't my first true indication to say it was Jake, rather it was more a set up to the first indication.
When Jake got hit with the bicycle, the scene seemed to be so out of place and abrupt that it immediately made me start thinking. That's when I first thought 'hm, I wonder if he felt even more pain than he let on because of the way he went down.' A very short scene, so I don't have much to say about it, but I definitely figured it would come up later on in the episode, which it did. Also, the car scene that followed not too long after this where his car 'broke down' definitely made me even more cautious about him. He was acting weird and something definitely was up.
The scene that sealed the deal was when he was with Lindy and he had reacted to her touching his chest. Jake claimed it was due to the bike hitting him, but the location of the bruise, the severity of the bruise, definitely clued me in that it was not at all due to him being it by the bike. That pulled in where I remembered the person was hit by Catherine. It was the same spot. I automatically told both my mom, who also watches the show, and my friend about it, but there was still something holding all of us back from believing it really was him because he seemed so sweet, not to mention how cute he is. I knew for sure that everything was adding up and that it would ultimately lead to the confirmation by Connor and Tommy that he is the killer.
I think this adds to the depth of his character and although I probably shouldn't, I definitely like him still, maybe even more now than before. There's still something that's nagging at the back of my head about the whole thing. We know Jake's hired hit men according to Tommy and Connor's information. One thing that I've seen cause a bit of a conversation is whether it was Jake who killed Tessa or someone else she recognized. Since we don't know the time frame, I think that there is the possibility it was him who did it. He could have easily slipped out after Lindy fell asleep. I don't think his car was actually broken, giving him an easy way to get back to Sophia's apartment that was fast. However, we never did see the face of that person, so it could be someone else that's in on it that Tessa knows, but it would make sense if it was Jake who made it back in time to kill her and kidnap Sophia.
I'm can't wait for the season finale. I've heard the cast say that it gives some closure to the plot of this season, while introducing some plots that can be explored further if it is renewed for a second season, which is the usual case as a show ends a season. This also means the creators have hope it will be renewed, as well as the cast. I'm looking forward to next week and to how everything plays out, especially how Lindy reacts. Also, Jake's American accent when he says "Hello, Eye Candy" in the promo makes that part so much creepier. Should be a good finale!
Quick Reminder: All CW Shows come back next week, so weekly recaps will be back!
