Family of Rogues.
Captain Cold is back, along with his sister, Lisa, and this time he's been kidnapped. Barry and the team are allying with her in order to save him, but problems come in when Lenny's (Captain Cold) dad shows up. Joe has a big decision regarding his wife's visit. Let's get into the recap. Warning: Spoilers ahead.
Team Flash has got a breach in Star Labs and they're trying to figure out how to get through it. One problem: Everything going through is bouncing back, even Barry. According to Jay's guess, they need to stabilize a door in order to be able to get through the hallway to the other side.
Joe really doesn't want Francine West in town, and he's even willing to pay her a good chunk of cash to get out of town. The question is why? Joe didn't want her to raise her because he feared what she would become based on how Francine would raise her.
Lisa Snart needs The Flash's help. Her brother's been kidnapped and she's here to have him repay some debt. Barry goes to check it out, and it turns out that Cold isn't kidnapped, he's with his dad. And he sure doesn't have a problem hitting Barry with his cold gun, freezing him in place. Luckily for him, Cisco's genius thinking comes into use again because he installed a thermal thread in Barry's new suit, allowing him to heat it through for situations exactly like these.
According to Lisa, Lenny would never work with their dad. She's got a scar from being his daughter, not from being a criminal. She's got a rough childhood that we haven't heard about. Her father beat her, starting when she was 7, and it wasn't just with his hands. He used bottles as well. Lenny raised her, protected her, and she truly feels he's in trouble. She's extremely vulnerable in the scene with Cisco, and if she wasn't a likable villain before, she certainly is one now.
Caitlin and Jay had another great conversation about how he lost his power and he feels as though that lessens his ability to be a superhero. Jay the physicist could be just a great a hero as Jay the Flash.
Joe sits down with Iris to talk to her about her mom and this is when we get her backstory. Iris called the station when she was younger to tell the police that her mother had taken some pills and collapsed. When he got the address, the address was his. There was an open flame in the house and the Joe arrived to find his wife passed out on the floor. Joe checked Francine into rehab, but a few days later, she disappeared, and Joe had told Iris that her mother was dead because he didn't want her to think that there was something wrong with her. An emotional scene, especially since Joe was so worried that he made the wrong decision, but Iris knew that he was trying to protect her and she's not mad at him.
Things are getting a little dicey, especially since Lisa has a bomb on her. The problem is, it's going to explode if it comes into contact with air, so they have to disarm it before they remove it. The reason why Lenny is helping his dad is because if he didn't, his dad would kill her. So, Barry's got a plan. He's going to pretend to be a techy and pretend to work for Mr. Snart. Barry's attempting to play evil, while also doing his Flash stuff to save people that would otherwise be victims. As soon as he gets them past the coded door, Mr. Snart "shoots" Barry. I say "shoots" because Barry reacts quick enough to grab the bullet before it hits him and go down to make it seem as though he was actually shot.
Barry returns as The Flash to face Mr. Snart and despite being told to kill The Flash, he doesn't shoot yet. Barry gets the signal that Cisco got the bomb out of Lisa and he was safe to go against his father. He doesn't just go against him, he shoots him with the cold gun and kills him. It lands him back in prison, but his sister's safe. And now, they each know each others secrets. Lenny knows Barry's The Flash, and Barry knows that Lenny would do anything for his sister. Not to mention that Barry believes there's some good in him, despite what he says.
There's some romance brewing in Central City. Patty's given Barry her number and they're set to have a romance this season, so you can definitely see that brewing. Cisco got a kiss this episode from Lisa. They've still got that cute flirtation going on also.
Martin Stein, Jay, and Caitlin have stabilized the breach within Star Labs. Jay was going to leave, but Caitlin convinces him that he should stay and help, so as soon as they stop Zoom, he'll go home. Martin Stein went up into flames like firestorm and then into blue flames before collapsing. From the promo, he apparently requires a match to survive. Firestorm has to be a pair of people. Harrison Wells from Earth Two has also made his way into Star Labs so I'm excited to see how that plays out and how everyone reacts to seeing him show up. Should be an interesting episode. Until then!
