Supernatural Season 11 Premiere Recap

"Out of the Darkness, Into the Fire"
11 Seasons. We've reached the first episode of Season 11 in the story of the Winchester brothers. It's had ups and downs, twists and turns, and now they'll face what is being called "their biggest threat yet." Happy premiere day! New episodes to watch and new blog posts to write. I'm excited. If you're new to my blog, here's an important disclaimer: This post is not spoiler free. I'll be discussing and reviewing all parts of the episode. If you haven't watched yet, I highly recommend you do before reading on.

We pick up right where the last season left off with the darkness coming in while Sam and Dean are in the car. Dean is talking about being saved by the darkness, while Sam's face is all cut up and their car is a mile away. Apparently, she pulled him out of the car and saved him, thanking him for setting her free.

And then we see Castiel. Poor, poor Cas. Cursed by Rowena and still being tortured. He may of killed Crowley's vessel, but he didn't succeed in killing Crowley. He's got a new female vessel, instead. Not for long, though. He soon gets back to his original vessel with help from some minions. Cas is desperate at this point. He's turning back to Heaven, asking for help in any way possible because he doesn't want to harm anyone else. He's desperately praying for some way to stop it. Angels did show up, but not to take him to Heaven. Huge props to Misha Collins because damn, he's putting forward some great acting.

There's something strange going on. People are going rabid, their veins turning black. They're attacking people and no one knows what to do or how to deal with it. Sam and Dean find themselves at a hospital with a female officer, Jenna, they found on the road injured and near some of the rabid people that she's killed. There, they meet a father, Mike, and his newborn baby. His wife passed away after giving birth. He hid in a closet to save himself and his child from the rabid people that flooded the hospital. It was as though they were possessed. Whatever it is could be transmittable. They bled on him and cut him and now, he's infected, too. They have a shelf life. After being rabid for so long, they die on their own. He agrees to locking himself away and letting whatever this is pass as long as Jenna, who he knows, agrees to take care of his baby girl. She does and he goes to be locked away, but things wouldn't be that easy. This is Supernatural we're talking about.

Dean refuses to let the baby die by staying in the hospital. More of the infected are coming to where they are. They need to fight back. They aren't doing great and neither is Cas. They're both in bad situations. They're going to need to find Cas and stop the darkness somehow. They don't even know where Cas is because he hung up before they could finish their conversation. All Dean can focus on right now is saving the baby. They can't kill first question later anymore. Sam knows that they need to try and find a cure. They need to attempt to save all people. The darkness is on them. They have to change how they go about things to stop this.

There's a new group of rabid people out to attack them. While Sam serves as a distraction, Dean and Jenna get the baby to the car. Sam, seemingly safe in a supply closet, runs into one that's also in there. Luckily, he's able to kill her. However, when three more crash down the door, they go after him, but don't attack after they smell him. Jenna and Dean run into Mike again as they're about to leave and this time, he is also rabid, but is able to restrain himself from attacking. The baby's name is Amara. He lets them go, and then he collapses, falling dead.

A few things were revealed at the end of the episode. The Darkness and Dean are bound. According to her, no matter what, they'll always help each other. The baby has a very small Mark of Cain on her. Amara is the darkness. It seems that we'll learn more about that in the next episode. And finally, Sam's infected. This episode seemed more introductory than the kind of premiere I wanted, but it does set up some interesting things for the season. A lot was said, but at the same time, not much happened. It's more of what's to come. Next week it seems as though we'll learn more, so we'll see if that episode picks things up a bit more.
