Tuesdays are back on the CW! I hope that you all found some way to keep busy during the hiatus. I spent mine on Tumblr, watching old episodes over again, and starting new shows, among other things. Also, I almost forgot to mention that Supernatural recaps will now be a weekly thing, along with The Flash and Arrow. When we last left off with the show, Dean was beginning to seem like dark Dean, or possibly Demon dean, was back on the horizon.
The promo shows that, too. As for my expectations based off the promo: I'm expecting for the mark to be discussed, Dean's state of mind, which certainly doesn't seem good at the moment, and Crowley's relationship with his mother. Not only that, but I'm hoping to see Sam and Cas' perspective on Dean and what is going on. It looks like it can be an interesting episode, and I'm really hoping they kick off the midseason with a bang.
The song in the opening 'Road So Far' sequence was great. I felt the need to point that out. I had to record the episode to SoundHound it afterwards, and realized the title was so fitting. In case you were wondering, the title is "Long Black Road" by Electric Light Orchestra.
Metatron is such an irritating character for me. I honestly want him to die at this point, but, Cas and Sam both think he knows of some way to help get rid of the mark, and if he can help, he can stay... for now. I eventually do want him dead if he's of no use, but that's besides the point. Telling Sam, Cas, and Dean that they need the First Blade and another spell to get rid of the mark? I don't know if I'd believe it.
Claire began to get on my nerves by consistently refusing to allow Cas to help her. Something that she definitely should consider because 'family don't end with blood.' She even insulted Dean in front of him, and Cas stood up for his friend. I loved that. He wasn't going to let someone who didn't understand the situation make assumptions. He was going to defend his friend. Claire almost lost my full respect for her when she tried to get Dean killed, but luckily she let him know that two people were about to try and hurt him so he could defend himself. It was silly to go after him in the first place, I mean he's a Winchester and a hunter. I did like the last
Rowena, Rowena, Rowena. What is she up to? I honestly don't know. She's definitely trying to sabotage her son, so what her actual plan is will be interesting to find/figure out.
Torture Dean came back and I loved getting to see that Dean again. Sam has gotten most of the darker scenes and I'm glad Dean's getting his opportunity with them now. He wasn't going to let Metatron boss him around. He was going to get that information out of him without a price. And oh hell, he was going dark in the process of it. The more he tortured Metatron, the darker he got. And for some reason, torturous and murderous Dean is still so attractive. I think I wrote this in a blog post a month or so ago, but I had a theory that Dean would have to talk to Cain; ask Cain how he lives with the mark. It seems like that's the direction they're going in, but it could change. You can read that blog post here. That seems like the direction right now, and I'm excited to see how things lead up to it. Also, Dean's going to have to use a strong force, a good force, and I hope that it comes from both himself and his love for Sam, maybe even their brotherly love in general.
I wouldn't say that it was the greatest episode, but I wouldn't say it was a bad episode, either. I definitely liked that we say more of Dean this episode, though, and the effects of the mark and him becoming darker. It set up some things for the future, as well as where the episodes are leading to, which at this point seems to be Cain, and that seems to make sense entirely. Charlie will be back next week and whether or not it actually is Charlie herself, since it seems a bit odd her and Dean were fighting, I'm looking forward to it.
