Although I'm not posting a recap tonight, I did want to write up a blog regarding something on Arrow. So tonights blog will be addressing Oliver and Felicity.
We finally got a taste of what Oliver looks like when he's jealous in terms of something having to do with Felicity in episode 3x07. First, it was the smashing of the arrow head at the mention of Ray and Felicity. Then, it was Felicity actually telling Oliver that she was going to dinner with Ray Palmer. He didn't say anything directly to Felicity, herself, but it clearly showed on his face. He was hurt. The mere thought of her being with someone else bothered him. It ate at him inside. He knew it should be him taking her to dinner, but he couldn't bring himself to put her in that danger; the danger he believed would come with them being together because he has his other life as the Arrow. I never want to hear that Oliver Queen is a selfish person, because he isn't and there's so much proof that he isn't, this is just another example.
Oliver's so used to to Felicity being right by his side that he even forgot about Felicity's date with Ray. He's so used to her being there with him, not someone else. In the midst of this, a person that's going to help both Oliver and Felicity realize that being together is the right thing for the both of them is Diggle. It's so clear to someone looking at the relationship from the outside, someone who's around them both all the time, that they need each other. They work better with each other.
It was so necessary for Felicity's dress and hair to be different for her date with Ray Palmer than she would ever wear around Oliver. She's herself around Ray, but she's not herself. It was intended to draw a contrast to how she is around Oliver. The dresses and outfits she wears on a day to day basis, let alone Oliver and Felicity's date in the beginning of the season, are so different from the one Ray picked out for her, and although beautiful, it didn't scream Felicity. Even her hair didn't scream Felicity. She was meant to look different from herself; a different style.
The bottom line is Oliver and Felicity have to realize that they're the best they can be when they're together. I loved the scene where Oliver finally told Diggle all that was bothering him about Felicity being with Ray. It was so important for him to let those emotions out.
Yes, Felicity kissed Ray during episode 3x07, but that didn't bother me as much. I knew the kiss was coming, I was honestly just getting ready to roll my eyes. The thing that destroyed me was when Oliver walked on screen, on his way to tell her how he felt. To finally allow himself to be truly happy, only to see the kiss happen. You could see it in his face, his heart slowly breaking at the sight, and that... that is was tore me apart. And you could see that it tore him apart also, not just by his face, but by the pure anger and frustration he expressed when he got back to the Arrow lair. Throwing everything off the table, allowing himself to express those emotions instead of keeping them in.
Oliver knows he made the decision to not be with Felicity. He knows that it was his choice. He's not blaming someone else for this choice, and it shows so much growth in his character. It's up to him now to decide to fight for Felicity. Until he does, he needs to accept that she's with someone else.
That event is definitely going to cause Oliver to hold off on telling Felicity how he feels for a bit of time. He's just seen the woman he's in love with kissing another guy (who's also up to something and shouldn't be trusted in my opinion). In his head, he thinks she's moved on. It's going to be so interesting to see how this all plays out, and I can't wait to watch what happens.
