Supernatural (Episode 10x13) Recap

Each Supernatural episode has a single recurring theme: brotherhood. This episode, "Halt & Catch Fire", while including that, also sought to teach a lesson. A very important one. It dealt with cellphone usage, and how it can become a very dangerous thing when a person is driving. (Spoilers ahead)

The brotherly teasing was strong again. Dean was acting like a grumpy old man, and I love episodes where Dean is like this, because he's not mean when he does it. It's actually really funny and entertaining. He looked so happy with that big tray of food in front of him. It was a very 'Dean' moment.

The vengeful spirit came about because four teens were on their phones while driving, got into an accident. It was definitely sending the message to not text and drive, but the fact that they didn't call the cops made the spirit vengeful.

The deaths were all very brutal this episode. Strangled by a laptop cord; music so loud it caused you a guy's ears and eyes to bleed, killing him. These deaths were classic Supernatural deaths. They were strange in all sorts of ways, but also kind of freaky.

Dean talking about how he copes with the nightmares and feelings that haunt him due to the Mark was a majority important part in the episode. He understands that a person can't bury everything. You have to seek forgiveness. You have to forgive yourself. Dean tries to cope with whiskey and denial, but he ultimately must forgive himself, which I feel is going to play a huge role in stopping the Mark from having such a strong effect on him. He does his best to make things right. A lot of what he was saying this episode about guilt, killing, etc. sounded more like he was talking to himself than to whoever was being addressed in the scene, but he understands what he needs to do for himself. Now he just needs to do it.

The last scene between Sam and Dean has to be one of my favorite this season. Sam continues to encourage his brother to have hope, to keep fighting. And Dean knows that he has to keep fighting, but he won't build up false hope for a cure. I loved this quote: "So I'm gonna fight it, till I can't fight it anymore. And when I'm all said and done, I'll go down swingin'." This is one of the reasons why Dean Winchester is at the top of the list of my favorite fictional characters.

I really love that season 10 is more of a Dean-centric season. We've seen Sam struggle with darkness before, and we have seen Dean struggle, but not as much. It's also a strong brotherhood, which is always important in the show.

Cain is in next week's episode and I'm very excited about it. Cas is also back, and I've missed him a ton, so I'm excited to see him back on the TV screen. The episode looks great and it also seems to include a fight between Cain and Dean, which will be interesting to see how it is brought about. I have a few ideas, but we'll see next week! I have another Supernatural post going up this weekend, so there's something to look forward to between it all.
